I feel like an arctic explorer! The work load has continued to be mild to slow in Toronto, so my main focus has been exercise. I am currently working on slimming down, and toning up, so that I have more opportunities to travel. My exercise routine is a tiring one, mostly outdoor running, jogging and sprinting. Today's session is what leads me to believe that I am living way too far North!

I really should have filmed my run today, it was classic. After working up the courage to actually get out of bed, bundle myself up and step out the door this morning, I was hit with a slap in the face that was really chilly, and REALLY windy. OK. I can do this, I told myself. One foot in front of the other, turn up the music. Start jogging, that's it, now pick up the pace... and then I rounded a corner and was hit with a brick wall of wind. I was doing the running man! It was awful! Giving it all I had, pushing my way through the wind, I was working my legs so hard just to move inches! My windbreaker became a sail, and I just ran there, for a couple seconds, in place. Finally I broke free from the grip of the ice-cold wind and made my way down the block. The rest of my run wasn't much better.

This to me, is dedication. It's not easy for me to get up, most days of the week, and face the music. I don't really care to go running. I'd actually prefer to lay in bed, read... have a big breakfast, watch some TV. Maybe leave the house in the afternoon... but that is not my life. I want to model. I want to be fit. I want to work towards my goals and dreams... and this is part of it. Getting up and sweating hard, five times a week, every week. Sometimes it's hard, sometimes it really sucks, and sometimes I want to hide under my bed and forget about it... but nine times out of ten, when I finally get home after an hour of working my body to the max, it honestly feels... so damn good.

That's the interesting thing about life. As humans, we often feel like something is missing if we don't have a goal, or something to work towards. I set a goal for myself to work out every week, the result being not just a better body, but the possibility of travel. Now I am in the middle of the process. As with most things, achieving the goals that I set isn't easy, but it is rewarding. Get out there. Take a risk. Set a stretch goal and start working for it to come true. I guarantee at times it will be hard and even uncomfortable (like anyone would choose to have cold wind blow up your nose as you battle the wind and snow up hill, for fun!) but in the end, when you look back over the discomforts and pain you had to go through, you will feel so good about your accomplishments.

I am an arctic explorer, and proud of it. I will gladly get up tomorrow, grumpy as I may be, and take the next challenge as it comes. One of the best feelings I know is when I come home, shower up, and move on with my day. Now as the castings, fittings and jobs start to trickle in, I can work with self satisfaction. I have said many many times that confidence is key. It is! Confidence is what makes you stand out. It gets you jobs, it helps you make friends, it makes you feel good. My confidence is supported by my efforts in self improvement. The best thing you can do is just do it. Whatever your personal goals are, don't delay. The sooner you start working toward your goals, the sooner you will reach your dreams. (whether that means cleaning up, working out, or being an arctic explorer like me).
