Robin Buss

October 7, 2021

Robin Buss is a 19-year-old (B&M Models) who recently arrived in Hong Kong to start her international career. The 176 cm (5'9") model is in Asia for the first time in her life and has kindly agreed to provide modelresource readers with occassional updates on her experience.

It has been another very busy week. Wednesday was fun, I did an event in the Grand Hyatt Hotel for Crabtree and Evelyn. They set up in the ballroom, with iron center pieces dripping with candles, vines and roses on each neatly set table. Giant chandeliers hung above the low lit, mist filled venue. It was really magical. The models entered on either side for the room, well choreographed and decked out in bedroom attire (think sexy flannel!). We then had to move along through the routine we had practised all day, of well timed turns and poses. Although two girls radically missed their cues, the audience believed it to be a flawless performance, and I got to come home with a beautiful rose scented candle.

Thursday I was one of the Pucci girls at the Lane Crawford party. It was a relatively easy job, consisting of meeting and greeting guests, and collecting business cards for the "Lucky Draw" we were doing. It was required of us that every now and then we would throw in a "Ciao" and "Buene Fortune" to go along with the Italian theme. It was pretty fun! By the end of the job my only requirement was to sit in a really expensive chair, sip champagne and look like I was having the time of my life. To get paid to do that? I was!

I am still learning how to balance my sleep versus socializing. It's hard. I've made some really excellent friends at this point, who I will continue to stay in touch with long after my contract is over, and I want so much to go out and have fun! But to be honest, I am running myself a little ragged. I need to get a good night's sleep! I am doing my best. That's all we can really do anyway.

On another note, I am making a point to learn more about the way of living here. Now it's not just my toe that has dipped into the pool of Hong Kong culture, but my whole foot! I can count to 10 (yet, yi, sum, say, mm, lok, chut, ba, gow, sup - isn't it exciting?!) and say "hi" and "bye" and "thank you" and "sorry" (A true Canadian, learning right away how to say sorry!).

And my new favourite food that's fast (it isn't right to classify it as fast food because its so healthy!) is from a chain called Rice. They take two layers of rice and pack it with stuff like mushrooms, green beans, meat or fish (I'm a vegetarian so I don't know how it tastes with meat, but its good with veggies!) and bamboo, and ground up stuff that is really tasty, and then they roll it into a ball. You eat it like a pita, its the coolest thing!

So, my adventures continue, and I am still having fun. With my castings I get to see more and more of the island, which is really beautiful. I passed a grave yard today that actually ran the length of the mountain. So instead of being like a flat yard, the side of the mountain had stair-like structures of cascading head stones. It was absolutely amazing to see. And I get to find these new pockets of adventure every day!

Who knows what tomorrow will bring.
