Discovered I was scouted over the years but I never took it seriously until I was 18 and in my first year of University. Having grown up in London, Ontario, I could not picture myself staying in my city and I was desperate for a change of pace. I sent my pictures to my current mother agent, Chantale Nadeau, in Toronto and was asked to come for a test shoot. Before I knew it, and much to my parent's surprise, my life as a model was underway.
Best Modelling Moment My modelling journey has been by far a memorable one. My favourite experience has to be a tie between being flown to Malaysia for three days to shoot a campaign; as well as staying at the Hyatt in Hong Kong with two very good friends for another campaign. As a model, you often travel by yourself so being able to share the experience with two other girls who happened to be good friends was wonderful!
Although to be honest, any time I have a shoot with a wonderful team is a constant reminder why I love this job so much. Everyone from the stylist, MUA, photographer etc., all come together to contribute to and create a work of art.
Awkward Modelling Moment Haha oh wow I have certainly had my fair share of awkward modelling moments. Especially while modelling overseas in China. I recall my first trip to Shanghai, where my bra was triple stuffed, yes, triple stuffed for a bridal shoot. It looked as though I was a squirrel harboring acorns in her chest for the cold winter ahead. I looked so ridiculous that I swear I was giving Holly Madison a run for her money. The picture still haunts me to this day. It may not sound too bad, but my friends will never let me live it down.
What lesson(s) have you learned in the last year? I can honestly say that the world of modelling has taught me more than any University course; in respect to life experience. This year specifically, I have learned the importance of being bold. Even if the odds may seem stacked against you, if you really want something to work, you must go for it. Actions speak louder than words.
What advice would you give a new model starting out? Be professional. Although modelling is not a conventional or typical job, it does by no means give you an excuse to not treat it as such. Be punctual, be kind and do your best. You are your greatest asset, so work it.
Favourite Market My favourite market would have to be, hands down, Singapore. There is such an incredible amount of talent in such a small country that it boggles my mind. The people there have such a passion for the industry and it is something I really admire. I definitely think Singapore will continue to grow and prosper as a future fashion hotspot.
Then again, I have never been to Europe for modelling (at least not yet!) so my opinion may still change. But Singapore will always hold a very special place in my heart.
Favourite Model Doutzen Kroes - Her big doe eyes and pout are so doll-like and strikingly beautiful. She is also incredibly humble and genuine; two qualities that I value most in any individual.
A close second would have to be the legendary, Natalia Vodianova. Her versatility is incomparable.
Most embarrassing song on your iPod? I do not feel as though any of the songs on my iPod are embarrassing per se; however, Notorious B.I.G's "Hypnotize" has to be the one most out of place in my play list!
