"This year I really want to go big." Chantale Nadeau has been scouting models for years; a talent she used to start a model placement agency in 2003. In that time she has sent nine models to work in foreign markets, and has nine others she's developing.

"Some of them need little changes, like for eyebrows to grow in," she says in a charming French accent. "Once they're ready I normally try to arrange for them to do a shoot with a photographer, and I'll go with them because I need to see how they are in front of the camera."
"When I see the results of the shoot, I decide whether it's still worth it for the model to pursue modelling - I don't want to waste anyone's time. Then we need to decide which agency, so I take the model with her photos to two or three agencies, and let the model decide which one. Usually though, I have a feeling which agency will work best with the girl."

"Even though I'm a model with Sutherland, I work with the agency that I think will do the best for them."

Although Chantale has an enormous amount of knowledge and experience from which to draw, she realizes that becoming an agent means learning a whole new side of the business.
"At first I really wanted to work with ALL the agencies, but I realize now that you do have to figure out your favourites. Not everybody has the same personality, or does their work in the same way."
