Ford's Kate Somers Elle U.S. (March 2009)
Modelresource, as you likely know, is based in Toronto. Toronto's climate, as you may know, is depressingly dull in the winter. This winter, you're probably aware, has been especially grey and bitter.
So colour is a very welcome sight these days, and very few take to tints the way Kate Somers does (for example...).
The release of the latest American Elle is a sweet break from the winter blahs, with Ford's sensational 16-year-old in vivid brilliance.
But then, Ms. Somers always makes me smile.

Anita Norris' Claudia Perez
Modelresource is currently in London, Ontario, catching up with Anita Norris.
Two weeks ago Modelresource introduced you to Norris' new face Andrea Pearl.
A couple others of whom you should be aware are Julie Weller, who just shot Abercrombie with Bruce Weber; and Claudia Perez, currently with Fashion Cult in Greece.
Back in July, Yours Truly arranged for one of his favourite models - Giovanni's Justyna - to shoot a video with moo (www.mooking.com)... who, incidentally, happens to be one of my favourite photographers.
As Modelresource told you then, Fashion Television tagged along to record a behind-the-scenes feature.
Modelresource loves discovering new photographers, and right now we're really liking the direction we're seeing in Christine Buijs' work (www.christinebuijs.com).
The Toronto-based graduate of Sheridan College also does a lot of work in B.C., and was very recently published in both L.A. and Japan.
These images are from a recent shoot with Allan International Models' 5'9", 16-year-old Rachel Metz (placed with Icon in Toronto).
It's certainly not difficult spotting Next models these days. They're showing up on international runways and magazine covers; and in editorial and campaign.
Modelresource told you a couple weeks ago about big developments from Kim Cloutier, Daniel di Tomasso and Sarah Ruba.
Since then Mackenzie has appeared on the cover of LOULOU (interview with Mackenzie here), shot by Geneviève Charbonneau (www.genevievecharbonneau.com).
The Montréal photographer also did LOULOU's beauty images of Justine, who just recently returned from Paris where she built a solid European book, adding campaigns for L'Oréal Paris and Air France.
Renée Lacombe, meanwhile, is appearing in the current issue of Flare, shot by Max Abadian (www.maxabadian.com), as well as in a Carolee campaign from New York.
And while all those tear sheets were rolling in, Kelsey Van Mook was among the busier Canadians at New York's Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, appearing in at least a dozen shows.

I think a lot of people suspected the six-day absence of Addison Gill from the New York runways could only mean one thing; a Calvin Klein exclusive.
That is indeed what happened Thursday, as the 16-year-old Sutherland/Chantale Nadeau model made her catwalk debut on a Manhattan platform that has been the launching pad for many a successful model.
The Imagistalluded to it Thursday afternoon, with a post from backstage revealing "...The V Magazine/Supreme Search winner is here, sparking Addison off to an audacious start..."
Just an hour before showtime, it seemed all that was left was the waiting...
Then, as more backstage shots started to appear online there was the hint of another Canadian making a Calvin Klein exclusive.
Unlike fellow Torontonian Gill, who is in her inaugural season, Bojana Reljic got the second big break of her career Thursday (the other being first runner-up at Ford Supermodel of the World, three years ago), when she came in completely under the radar to walk in the week's most scrutinized lineup.
The 17-year-old Elmer Olsen model was not in the IMG New York show package, neither is she in the Paris one, so it will be interesting to see where the momentum carries her.
Judging by the European showcards coming out now, expect to see much more of Gill in the coming weeks.
I first became aware of Brian Ypperciel (www.brianypperciel.com) when he shot Drea's image on the left.
Now, three years later, the Montréal photographer and Chantale Nadeau model have teamed up again, to produce the images below.
If you know Drea and Brian - two people that always make you smile - you have to know this would have been a very fun session.

Modelresource is pretty happy to share three fresh Mode models that look to have some serious impact on the industry.
Calgarian Hannah Donker, who turns 18 in June, is already placed with IMG in New York.
17-year-old Steph del Alba from Edmonton, and Vancouver 15-year-old Janice are not yet placed, but given Mode's remarkable record for developing raw potential it likely won't be long before we see them on the international stage.

Folio's Billie-Jazz Marcuzzo
There are so many emails that come from Folio that I would love to reproduce in their entirety, because when booker Alexandre de Bellefeuille gets excited about something the messages are creative works of art.
Billie-Jazz Marcuzzo was the subject of de Bellefeuille's latest rave, as he announced the release of the new Parasuco campaign.
I won't be reciting the rapping prose here, but if you get the chance to get on a Folio mailing list, it's well worth it.
Just ahead of Toronto's LG Fashion Week (formerly L'Oréal Fashion Week), Ford is readying a roster of new faces down on Adelaide Street, including Hannah Forbes, Jamie Hansen, Bronte and Emily Jane.

Mode's Court Baker
After a successful first show week with Trump in September, Court Baker is taking this season off to concentrate on school.
In her young career the 16-year-old Mode model has already shot with Chadwick Tyler for Fashion Magazine, and travelled to Singapore with Ave, where she appeared in Elle, Female and several other magazines.
Modelresource is looking forward to telling you much, much more about this remarkable 5'10½" beauty in the future.

Next's Kim Cloutier Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2009 photo: Matt Jones image: si.com
In the last few days the agency has seen the release of an Armani Collezioni campaign featuring Daniel di Tomasso and new Converse Chuck Taylor ads with Sarah Ruba.
Then, just yesterday, the new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition - some of the most important pages on which a model can appear - was released, featuring Kim Cloutier.
The former Modelresource Featured Model is also currently leading the official polling for favourite swimsuit model by a staggering margin. Of the 19 models listed, Cloutier holds more than 40% of the vote (you can add to the total by voting here).

CoverModels' Cassandra Tighe
Former Modelresource Featured Model Cassandra Tighe is wrapping up her trip to Australia, and collecting some damn fine tearsheets (like these, from March's Australian Cosmo) before she goes.
The CoverModels beauty has been travelling for the majority of the past year, making one successful stay after another.
Tighe returns to Canada (where she is placed with Giovanni in Toronto, and Montage in Montréal) next week.

Ryan, Kim & Chantal by Leda & St-Jacques
Modelresource got a look at the latest issue of Elle Canada this weekend, and was happy to see a number of notable Canadian models among the editorials.
The Western Canadian powerhouse that is Mode Models has re-opened in Edmonton under new management.
According to a post this morning on the agency's blog (www.mode-edmonton.blogspot.com, Katherine Hemsworth is the new Agency Director.
Mode's Edmonton office has produced such well-known Canadian models as Meghan Collison, Agnieszka Wichniewicz and Anna Wasacz-Carter, as well as relative new face Samantha Ypma, who Modelresource is expecting big things from.

Next's Justine photo: Jessie Craig
If you haven't heard yet of Jessie Craig, well, it's because the young Canadian photographer has been living in France for most of the past year.
I met her just before she left for Europe, and was amazed by the amount of talent she was exhibiting at such an early stage in her career. Her ability has only grown since then.
Modelresource gave you a heads-up a couple of weeks ago, when Shelby Furber departed for Montenegro to compete at Supermodel of the World.
The Ford model impressively picked up 3rd runner-up honours at the prestigious competition, and undoubtedly made a lot of useful connections along the way.
Back home in snowy Toronto meanwhile, the 15-year-old brunette is now appearing in Glow, photographed by Geneviève Caron (www.genevievecaron.com); and in Cheek, by moo (www.mooking.com).

So just who are the top Canadian male models?
Modelresource wanted to know too, so we charged Matthew Lyn (www.matthewlyn.com) with finding out.
The Toronto photographer will be tracking the male modelling scene for us, giving readers a better sense of what the boys are up to.
We will start unveiling the top 25 guys over the next week. Stay tuned...
