Folio's Anaïs, for MiuMiu

A little more than a month ago, while the major fashion weeks were shifting their momentum to the other side of the Atlantic, Modelresource dropped this little post about some of the Canadian models that got a good look in New York.

Anaïs Pouliot was one of the faces we noted following her turns at Lacoste and others.

Things only got better from there, with the Folio model appearing third in MiuMiu's Paris lineup, creating somewhat of a frenzy around the Lachenaie, PQ native.

Among the many that have since put Pouliot on option: some guy named Steven Meisel.

Pictured below is the 18-year-old in the latest issue of Z!NK Canada, by Richard Bernardin.

The Montréal photographer will be appearing Wednesday in a new, more personal Through The Lens, with Chelsea Coyle.

Theo Hall, in Kill

The new [Dress to] Kill Spring Pop 2010 issue is finding its way across Canada these days, and with its enlarged mandate (now extending beyond its original Montréal roots), a wider variety of talent can be found in its contributor base.

Witness here, photographer Greg Swales working with I Model Mgmt's Theo Hall in Vancouver.

We're liking the broader reach.

Next's Nicole Sandalis

As with every fashion week in Toronto, some aspects I look forward to more than others, and the only thing one can really count on is the unexpected. Cliché, but true.

The most pleasant surprise last year (I've said it about a thousand times now) was the inaugural Women X Women exhibit, shining a light on some of this country's brightest photographic talent (irrespective of gender).

Last month Modelresource gave you an intentionally lame look behind the scenes of the WxW shoot orchestrated by Lindsey Drennan (

Now, with the date closer at hand, and having had my hands on the promo book (I just bumped into Lily & Lilac, who just received a nicely printed and bound, hardcover copy) I can display a few more images captured that day; a bit more flavour of what you can expect next week.

Some of the models I immediately noted in the book: Jessica Lewis and Genevieve Pantano from Elmer Olsen, Asha from Ford, Folio's Gigi and Jessiann Gravel of Montage.

Ford's Jenna Judd for FEMME

Drennan's models are:

  • Ford's Jenna Judd, who - aside from being breathtakingly beautiful - is one of the most articulate, pleasant and interesting people I know.

  • Next's Nicole Sandalis, who has been remarkably busy since starting in May, and is now three weeks away from her first overseas stint in Tokyo. Shown below is the gorgeous Cape Breton blonde in two images from the new FEMME campaign, shot recently in Montréal.

Women x Women will end LG Fashion Week in the Thrush Holmes Empire Art Gallery (1093 Queen St. W.) with an exhibition open to the public on Friday, April 2nd, from 11:00 to 5:00.

The Advocates, organizers of WxW, have also cleverly pieced together a couple of videos documenting the coming together of this season's photo shoots. Check those out on their YouTube Channel.

    Kim Cloutier for Victoria's Secret
To have a face and a body like Kim Cloutier's, along with the innate ability to engage the camera with such compelling presence, and you know the results are going to be outstanding.

The Next model continues to be a ubiquitous presense in the beauty world, with new campaigns now appearing for both Clarins and DIM, yet another turn in the pages of Victoria's Secret and two gorgeous images in German Elle.

The newest tearsheet to appear in Kaitlyn Vanderkooi's book comes in the form of a campaign appearing in American Vogue.

Agence Emme's 5'9½" beauty is the current face of Vancouver's Kersh (, which was kind enough to give her a full page in the coveted U.S. fashion mag.

    CoverModels' Troy

New from Ottawa's CoverModels comes Troy.

The 6'1½" new face is already placed B1 in New York and - according to his mother agent, CoverModels' Viresh Pujara - is gaining significant interest in Europe.

One of my favourite young photographers, Gian Carlo Drueco, has just updated his printed book and redone his website.

Very few in this country capture mood as well as Drueco, and it's only a matter of time before you're seeing his work in a lot more places.

    Jean-François Poirier in HOMME
As promised yesterday, some new images of Québec's Jean François Poirier, courtesy of two very talented Montréal photographers.

The Next model's tearsheets come from France's HOMME magazine, and were shot by Brian Ypperciel (

The second set of images come from an exhibit currently on display at Montréal's W Hotel, featuring the work of four local artists.

Yann Ostiguy ( presented the three stunning photos below, in a gallery that also contained works from Anouk Lessard, Leda & St-Jacques and Pierre Manning.

    Hugo, by Patrice Massé (Rodeo)
Busy days at Next in Montréal, where the campaigns keep rolling in.

Tristan's new visuals feature both Sandra Berubé and Matthew, while Feetfirst flew Renee Lacombe to San Diego to work with photographer Gilbert Duclos (

Yellow's latest campaign features a trio of Next models. Hugo Jammes, Danielle Smit and Jonathan shot the new lines - soon to be on billboards across Québec - with Patrice Massé (

Jean-François Poirier has producing some pretty spectacular images lately, as well. I'll share those with you on Friday.

    Raphaelle, in Z!NK Canada
Modelresource spent last week in Montréal, catching up on what's been happening in my favourite city.

Trips to 514 are exhausting because there is so much going on, and I love the people that make its industry tick. I'm never, ever bored.

The new issue of Z!NK Canada landed while I was there, containing this story by Mackenzie Duncan (Productions l'Eloi).

Featuring former Giovanni model Raphaelle, "Native Daughter" was shot on the Mountain (a.k.a. Parc du Mont-Royal).

    Rob Rae, Tendenacias
When I first saw Rob Rae there was something about him I immediately liked, but couldn't put my finger on it.

Whatever it was, obviously others are seeing it too, because the boy has been busy.

In addition to a recent show season that saw the Elmer Olsen model walking for the likes of Lanvin, Kenzo, Viktor & Rolf, Prada, Burberry Prorsum and Dolce & Gabbana, he's also appearing on the cover of Spain's Tendencias.

Closer to home, the St. Catharines brunette is appearing alongside Jessica Lewis for Montréal's Mackage.

    edge models' Jasmine Yan
British Columbia's Jasmine Yan sure is having a good run lately.

According to her manager - edge models' Barbara Pilling - the 5'10" beauty's recent print work includes "A" Magazine, GQ Taiwan, Elle Italia, Marie Claire (U.S.), Signature Magazine and Levi's.

Add to that a slew of New York shows, including Elie Tahari, Vivienne Tam and Catherine Malandrino, and you can be pretty confident this is a model you'll be hearing much more about in the future.
