Kerry Parrett
Kerry Parrett
A few months ago International Model's owner Michèle Miller gave modelresource a first glimpse of Kerry Parrett (K.P.). Once I picked my jaw up off the floor I called Miller repeatedly until she let me post Parrett's pictures online for the rest of the world to see.

The same week Modelresource became the first site in the world to show Parrett, she shot for American Vogue and has been turning heads ever since.

IMG's Ivan Bart, who represents Parrett in New York, calls her "simply the most tall and graceful girl that I have met in a long time," and is confident we will be seeing her everywhere before long.

Now, in a major move for Elite Canada, booker Matti Gidilevich has secured the rights to book Parrett in Toronto.

Designers take note: this girl is going to be much more difficult (read: expensive) to book in future seasons.

Giovanni show package paper
Giovanni's show package paper
Giovanni is first out of the blocks to send out their show package for the upcoming L'Oreal Fashion Week.

The agency, which is known for its polished promotional materials and strong runway models, packaged their comps in their very own Giovanni wrapping paper featuring many of the more recognizable images of their well-known models.

As part of our lead up to fashion week Modelresource will be setting aside space for show packages as we recieve them.

L'Oreal Fashion Week begins October 17th in Toronto.

The event, sponsored by Enunciate conferencing, featured models from Sutherland's Modelwork division, and was aided greatly by the generosity of the very stylish Inside Out Salon, which did all the models' hair, and Grace Lee's M·A·C Pro Team which took care of makeup for the 17 models.

Last night's edition of the semi-annual event featured 30 pieces from up-and-coming designer Areta's spring 2006 collection, and had sold close to 800 advance tickets, with many more purchased at the door.

Madeleine Berrevoets
Madeleine Berrevoets
Apparently the fashion world wasn't disappointed by the much-aniticipated New York runway debut of Madeleine Berrevoets.

According to Elmer Olsen booker Ryan Greenwood, Madeleine rocked Strenesse, BCBG, Luella Bartley, PHi and Libertine at Olympus Fashion Week, and has "even more exciting things to come from MILAN & PARIS."

The head of IMG Models agrees. "The elite fashion circle seemed to immediately pick up on Madeleine," says Ivan Bart. "We have been following her in Canada for over a year."

Bart also told modelresource that Madeleine's Olympus Fashion Week debut was an indication that top stylists and casting teams will be calling on the young model from Gravenhurst, Ontario a lot more in the future. "The fashion shows she did have visionaries involved. You will see how their vision takes hold in Milan and Paris. You don't have to be a psychic to already know that she will walk major runways in Europe which will in turn, lead to the very best campaigns for Spring '06."

"Next season, in New York, we will be exhausted from the many requests from every designer! We are looking forward to it!"

Ryan Greenwood with Sarra

with booker Ryan Greenwood
Modelresource stopped by Elmer Olsen Models Monday, to meet their newest find, Sarra.

The lightly-freckled cutie is in town to do a two-day booking with photographer George Whiteside.

Only a month ago the 18-year-old was meeting with Elmer Olsen for the first time - a meeting that came out of a department store photo shoot. "Every year Wal-Mart asks employees and their family to submit photos for their flyer," Sarra tells modelresource. "So my mom got my brothers, sisters and I to send out stuff.

"They called me back, asked me to come in and showed me the jacket I would be modelling - it's white, pouffy - and M.J., the stylist there, told me if I was interested in modelling as a career I should call Elmer. So I called him, set up a meeting, came to Toronto and here I am now."

Sarra's expectations are pretty standard: "I'd really like to travel and have some fun... make some money."

The Ottawa native also expects to be relocating to Toronto in the near future. Modelresource expects to be seeing a lot more of Sarra.

Sister Underwear showed Sunday afternoon in Toronto.

The designs, inspired by seven friends of designer Sara Graham, brought out the likes of B&M's Mel Mateus, Gail McInnes, & Emma Barker, as well as Chantale Nadeau (who raves about the quality of Sister Underwear).

The show, sponsored in part by Cake Beauty and Moosehead also had a charitable element, as a portion of sales went to the cause of the buyer's choosing.

Modelresource favourite and New Face alumnus Irina Funtikova, takes another step in her impressive young career this weekend by shooting for D Mag, with Diego Uchitel.

According to Elite's Matti Gidilevich, the 19-year-old is also on hold for CosmoGIRL in New York early next week, then "she comes home for a few days... then off to Europe to do the shows in Milan and Paris, stop off in Germany for a week or so, and then either back to Paris or to London... Depending on her options."

Expect to see a lot more from the former rhythmic gymnast in the very near future.

Yasmin Warsame on the cover of Lush
Yasmin Warsame
by Paul Wright
Canada's newest fashion magazine, Lush, launched with much fanfare last night, and despite the repressive heat inside the State Theatre the number of fashion luminaries in attendance was enough to keep the crowd buzzing well into the night.

The most impressive part of the evening however, was the debut of the magazine itself. Geared towards an educated female audience, Lush spared no expense in putting together a magazine that not only looks great, but feels really good as well. Frankly, it's the kind of magazine that stays in your living room - not your washroom.

The photography is outstanding, and much to the approval of modelresource, the models and their agencies are credited throughout. The tear sheets, for models fortunate enough to appear in the magazine, are the types of tears that will likely stay in your book when you travel to New York or Milan.

Also making modelresource happy is the magazine's decision to put a stunning black model - Next's Yasmin Warsame (shot by Paul Wright) - on the cover, further solidifying the magazine's commitment to hitting an educated audience that recognizes the beauty of other skin types.

Modelresource New Face alumnus Katelyn Vernon (Elmer Olsen Models) has a gorgeous spread inside, as does Claire Cormeau (Elite, Toronto; Mode, mother agent), shot by Geoff Barrenger.

The prestigious Ford Supermodel of the World contest is underway in Canada.

This year Ford Models has partnered with Sirens to give the event its most exposure yet. Ford's Cathy LeDrew tells modelresource "Sirens is a young, hip store and the clientele they have are perfect for potential models."

Until September 30th contestants can stop by any Sirens location across Canada to fill out an entry form (photos required), or can go online and download the application from the Sirens' website (must allow pop-ups).

Scouts from Ford will also be touring certain Sirens stores in B.C., Québec and Ontario looking for the next supermodel (dates and further contest details can be found on the Sirens' website).

Modelresource spoke to Sirens Marketing Director Diane Keeling-Spiridoulias, who told us the winner of the Canadian portion of the search will be featured in Sirens' 2006 campaign (a prize valued at approximately $1,000) and will be flown to New York to compete in the finals of the Ford Supermodel of the World Contest against models from more than 50 other countries. The overall winner from that contest wins a US$250,000 contract with Ford.

Past Canadian winners have included Tricia Helfer and Leanne Spencer. Vancouver's Ingrid Schram was a runner-up last year, and walked away with a US$100,000 contract.

for Tristan America
Modelresource is back in Toronto, eagerly anticipating tonight's launch party for Lush Magazine.

While we were away, Nam Models' Andrew Stetson was busy.

According to Nam agent Aaron Hawco, Stetson's recent bookings include "the Fall/Winter 2005 campaign for Tristan America, which follows his Spring/Summer 2005 booking for the trend setting Canadian retailer plus the Fall/Winter 2005 international campaign for Levis Jeans... and it is only moments away for his Calvin Klein exclusive to drop."

It makes me happy that as the Calgary area continues to turn out amazing new models, the city is keeping pace by developing new opportunities for them. Starting in 2006, Canada's most dynamic economy is diversifying its fashion offerings by supporting local designers and staging a full-fledged Fashion Week.

The city has long boasted a strong - and very cool - skater/snowboard street style that complements an impressive underground music scene. The rest of the city, unfortunately, is dominated by the golf-shirted business-casual crowd and soccer mom's with no-fuss hair.

Calgary Fashion Week isn't intended to compete with the more established Toronto and Montreal events. Instead, says Calgary Downtown Association's Jackie Flegel, Calgary's will focus on promoting designers directly to consumers, rather than store buyers and media. "We plan to be at different restaurants and clubs in the downtown core and then combine that with seminars about fashion, stylist seminars, trunk shows as well as kiosks around downtown where designers can show their stuff."

"This is definitely a see it, buy it showcase. People will see it on the stage and know where to buy it."

Modelresource was very impressed with what we saw, including a bevy of gorgeous Mode Models; and well-known and respected local-boy-done-good Paul Hardy, city fave Evalina Schmidtke and Ephoe's rising star Lacy Barry, who modelresource first met in Toronto in March.

Despite making a very strong impression in March, catching the attention of many prominent fashion folk in Toronto (modelresource overheard Fashion Television's Jeanne Becker expressing a lot of enthusiasm for what she saw of Barry's), the young designer that went to school with Lisa Cant will be showing in Vancouver instead of in Toronto this fall. As far as modelresource is concerned, that is Toronto's loss.

Modelresource is still in Calgary, enjoying such local favourites as Tubby Dogs (best tasting veggie dog ever), Buddha's Veggie and Bernard Callebaut chocolates.

It seems only fitting that as this province celebrated its 100th birthday yesterday, Lethbridge's Marla Boehr would catch the interest of's Model Mania.

Modelresource is still in Calgary for one more week - and has lined up interviews with two of the most influential people in the Canadian industry while we're here.
