The Fittings

Unlike the casting, at which a lot of models came unprepared, the fittings ran much more smoothly for the organizers.

Models were generally on time and prepared as they worked their way through the collections to be featured at the Charity Step fashion show. One thing to note though -- some models were still axed following the fittings. Just because a model gets through the casting, doesn't mean they're in the show. If a designer realizes later that you aren't right for their set, they won't hesitate to cut you. And it they cut you based on the way you're acting, they probably won't hire you again.

Fittings at typical shows would have models matched up with one designer's collections. Because four labels were presenting at this show, models had a lot of waiting around; as they finished with one designer they had to wait for the next designer to finish with another model... or two... and so on...

What Models need to Know about Fittings

Be prepared for the designers to take control of you. You're donning their creations, and they're going to want to make sure everything looks, fits, and moves exactly as they envision it. That means they're going to be adjusting the clothes while you're wearing them. It means they feel justified in asking you to try on a lot of different clothing in ways you would never imagine. It may mean them coming in the dressing room with you to make sure you get their garments just right.

Many, many things in this industry involve a lot of waiting, which is why it's always a good idea to bring reading material, a bottle of water and fresh fruit to keep your energy up.

Take care of the clothes. When you're done, unless you're being rushed into something else ask the designer if you can help. THIS is what designers remember the next time they need models.

Never (NEVER!) criticize the clothes. If it's not your style, make it your style, if only for the show.
