L'Oréal Fashion Week
Day ONE - Update
A little clarification from my earlier post: Apparently "Don't Tell My Booker" is the name of a private company that throws parties around the world. Their promo materials, written in broken English, boast:
"The list of its celebrity guests is a long one : Oliver Stone, Samuel Le Bihan, Mickey Rourke, Val Kilmer, Sean Penn were seen recently dancing among the most beautiful creatures on earth... Stress, diet, pressure and rush are not welcome and would find the door very hard."
So the FDCC didn't actually come up with the theme, it just got into bed with a namedropping sponsor that exploits a stereotype of models gone wild.
I've received a lot of feedback on this today, so I want to make my stance clear:
I WANT to support the FDCC. I really want to support the designers. But more than anything I want to preserve the dignity of models that don't get nearly the recognition or respect they deserve.
Unless the FDCC wants to explain to models - and the parents of models - why it supports an event that debases them, I strongly suggest it re-evaluates its partnerships.
The last word on this goes to a model that wrote to me earlier today. This is a model that did several shows last season, and is booked again this week. "It's a ticket to the really scary people that DO exist in the fashion industry to harass you and treat you for what you're stereotyped to be! It makes me so sick..."
